Day and night blinds
Day and night blinds, also called zebra or dual blinds, have two layers of fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands. Line the sheer bands up to see out and let light in; offset them to block the view. They combine the simplicity of a roller blind with venetian-style light control.

Key facts
| Best for | Living room, Bedroom, Kitchen |
|---|---|
| Light | Adjustable: soft filtered light when the bands are open, dimmed when they're closed. |
| Privacy | Good with the bands closed; partial with them open. |
| Care | Vacuum gently on both sides. Dust collects between the layers, so a periodic deep clean helps. |
What you get with day and night blinds
- Adjust light without raising the blind
- A soft, striped, modern look
- Chain or motorised operation
- A range of band widths and colours
Worth knowing before you choose
- Not a full blockout. Some light passes through the solid bands and the gaps.
- Dust settles between the two layers over time and is hard to reach yourself.
- The roll is bulkier than a single roller, so it needs a little more depth at the top of the window.
Questions about day and night blinds
What is the difference between day and night blinds and roller blinds?
A roller blind is one layer of fabric. A day and night blind has two layers with alternating sheer and solid bands, so you can adjust light and privacy without raising the blind.
Do day and night blinds block out light completely?
No. With the bands closed they dim a room well, but they aren't a blockout blind. For a fully dark bedroom, choose a blockout roller or a lined roman blind.
